Who is asking such a ridiculous question? As a Korean I have never heard of such a stupid claim and I keep seeing them, as if Koreans in general have no idea what reality is like. In fact, we Koreans clearly know that we only have 50 million people, that not many people are fluent in Korean outside Korea, that officially Chinese characters are Chinese, that the land we are living in is not spacious particularly when compared to our neighbors, we don’t think Confucius was Korean, we don’t think Jesus was Korean etc.
But we do know that our kingdoms lasted for hundreds of years. Almost every single one of them, unlike our neighbor, many of whose kingdoms barely lasted one hundred years.
So please stop making such ridiculous comments and/or questions pretending you are Korean.

I have looked at many lists, Encyclopedia Brittanica for example. Japanese is listed as number 9. Korean is listed as number 12. If dialects are included in the ranking of the language, for example, Hindi plus Urdu plus Hinustani they would count for more speakers than speakers of English although these three languages are unintelligible to each other. In some reports Chinese is considered as the most spoken language in the world because all of its dialects are counted in. If the dialects are not included English is considered the most spoken language in the world.
